For this men’s vest pattern I chose Wool of the Andes* super wash. This gives your vest the warmth of wool and the ease of machine washing.
The color choices are many and so gorgeous. I chose the Noble Heather color that definitely resembles it’s namesake, the Noble Fir tree.
Wool of the Andes is a #4 medium worsted weight yarn. You can substitute a different yarn of the same weight, just be sure to work up a gauge swatch with your chosen yarn and hook.

My Simple Striped Sweater is an easy double crochet sweater in men’s sizes that’s great for beginners!
esc2tog – extended single crochet two together: insert hook into first stitch, yo and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), insert hook into next stitch, yo and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yo and pull through 2 loops (2 loops left on hook), yo and pull through last 2 loops.
Vest is worked flat in two parts and seamed together at the sides and shoulders. The v-neck and armhole shaping are made with decreases. To finish the vest, ribbing is worked in the round on the hem, neck and arm holes.
Vest includes 1.5”/4cm – 2.5”/6.5cm positive ease, where finished vest is larger than actual body measurements. For a looser fit, go up a size in the pattern. For a more snug fit, go down a size.
To change the length of the vest, add or subtract rows before beginning the armhole shaping. Be sure to match your back and front panel row counts.
To change the length of the v-neck, begin the decreases sooner (for a deeper v) or later (for a shallower v). For a wider v-neck continue to decrease, for a narrower v-neck stop decreases sooner.

-On RS, join yarn in first unworked st at center with a sl st. This will be to the left of the shoulder you have already complete.
-Rep instructions for Left Front Shoulder.
Seaming
-Lay front and back panel together with RS touching so you are working on the WS.
-Use yarn needle and tail or length of yarn to sew panels together at the shoulders.
-Then sew sides together from the bottom hem to the beginning of the armhole decreases-through rows 43 (47, 49, 51, 51, 53, 51, 53).
-Now is a good time to try it on and check fit.
Ribbing Notes
-Turn vest right side out.
-Join yarn with sl st to the st closest to seam.
-Ribbing is worked in the round on the RS.
-Ch 3 counts as a dc.
-Adjust ribbing by doing more or less reps.
Armhole Ribbing
Rnd 1. (RS) Ch 3 (counts), dc 57 (61, 65, 67, 73, 73, 77, 79) evenly around armhole, join with sl st to first st. (58, 62, 66, 68, 72, 74, 78, 80 sts) The exact number of stitches is not as important as crocheting around evenly, so add/subtract more if needed, but keep an even number of stitches and make sure both arms match.
Rnd 2. (RS) Ch 3, FPdc in next st, *{dc in next st, FPdc in next st} rep from * around, join to first st with sl st.
Rnds 3-4. Rep last row. Add more or less ribbing rows here to your preference.
Last row. Ch 1, sc in next st and in each st around, sl st to first st to join.
Cut yarn and weave in end.
Neckline Ribbing
Rnd 1. (RS) Ch 3, dc 41 (44, 47, 53, 56, 59, 65, 68) evenly around neckline, join with sl st to first st. (42, 45, 48, 54, 57, 60, 66, 69 sts) The exact number of stitches is not as important as crocheting around evenly, so add/subtract more if needed, but keep an even number of stitches.
Rnd 2. Ch 3, FPdc in next st, *{dc in next st, FPdc in next st} rep from * around, join to first st with sl st.
Rnds 3-4. Rep last row = 2”/5cm.
Hem Ribbing
Rnd 1. (RS) Ch 3, FPdc in next st, *{dc in next st, FPdc in next st} rep from * around, join to first st with sl st. (124, 136, 148, 164, 176, 188, 204, 216 sts)
Rnds 2-4. Rep last row = 2”/5cm.
Cut yarn. Weave in ends.
